Electing God’s Plan

Electing God’s Plan October 10, 2010

From WaPo:

Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell told the Christian Broadcasting Network last week that that she believes it was God plan for her to campaign and ultimately, to win:

“God continued to strengthen and empower us when, you know, His strength is perfected in our weakness. And that’s what’s exciting because you see, that if it weren’t for faith, when all logic said it’s time to quit, we pursued. We marched on because we knew God was not releasing us to quit. And now with such an important you realize why we were to endure all that stuff.”

A comment, appropriate for a Sunday when Christian politicians are making claims about knowing God’s will.

Some pundits are irritated that O’Donnell would make such claims, thinking beliefs like this need to be kept to oneself. Some suggest people like this ought not to run for office.

My own take: I applaud her attempts to discern the mind of God; I applaud her confidence. And now I also make a suggestion: if she loses, she needs to confess that she was wrong. If she loses, she misdiagnosed the will and mind of God.

I hear lots of politicians suggest they are on the path of God, but I can’t say I’ve heard many say they were flat-out wrong.
