MissioLife: Reading the Bible Together

MissioLife: Reading the Bible Together October 23, 2011

Not long ago I posted about MissioLife, and called attention to this new church digital resource — yes, that’s the wave of how more and more Christians and churches will be reading the Bible and doing group studies — as a tool for leading us from Bible knowledge to intimacy with God.

Today I’d like to comment on another major dimension of the MissioLife resource: it is a tool that encourages an entire church to read the (whole) Bible together. The three images above – breathe, image, rhythms — are symbols in MissioLife for adults, youth, and children. Each has its own age-sensitive approach to Bible reading and formation. But the three dovetail into one church formation approach.

Here’s the genius of MissioLife: it is a full integrative approach to church formation. Notice those words: full (whole Bible, whole Story, holistic salvation), integrative (adults, youth and children, and not scattered study groups doing what they want), church formation (not just individuals doing their own things, not just groups doing their thing, but the whole church doing Bible study and praxis in such a way that a “church” is formed).

Yes, I’m excited about this because I believe it is an exceptional approach to church formation. We have so much about personal spiritual formation; not enough about church formation. So when someone works this hard to provide a very modern approach — it’s digital after all — that focuses on church formation, my attention is complete.

I’d love to hear some feedback from churches who are already using this, but also from leaders who are discussing this digital resource for church formation.

For adults:

Breathe, the MissioLife small-group resource for adults, will help you discover the God, who moves among us, calling us to participate in the Kingdom here and now. As we read the stories in scriptures, we will begin to ask ourselves: What do these stories say to us about God? About ourselves? About the world?

For youth:

Through conversation and discussion, Image will help students discover how we all fit into God’s story and explore what Scripture says about God, others, ourselves, and the world.

For children:

Rhythms invites elementary children, ages 6-12, into the story of God. Using an easy-to-follow small group plan, Rhythms will help children explore a Bible story, be informed by the narrative, and be transformed through reflective questions, deeper thinking, and purposeful prayer to live into the mission of God.
