Christ United Methodist Church

Womens Conference, Feb. 12, 2011.

Creative people thrill me. So imagine my delight when the ladies at Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile sent me the above logo for an upcoming conference. I was so tickled at their adaptation of the topic I provided them that I wrote and asked who was that creative soul who came up with this idea?

Marcia Jacobs wrote back to say that Bo Busby, one of the committee member’s husband actually drew the chicken and that a graphic designer, Hannah Wilson, transformed it into the logo.

The poetic thing for me is that Bo, nor Hannah, or even Marcia knows the stories I’m going to tell but they could not have come up with a better fitting logo. It’s just so whimsical and funny and well, if I had an artist’s soul it’s just the sort of thing I’d want to create myself.

Anyone who has read this blog for any length of time knows that I love Alabama and its people, and that my residency at Fairhope provided the fodder for many of the best stories in Will Jesus Buy Me a Double-Wide?  That last time I was in the area the book had just been released so people hadn’t yet read it.

There were others things that hadn’t taken place yet either.

The BP oil spill for one.

And the economic fallout of that.

I am looking forward to returning to Alabama and sharing some stories of faith with these new friends.

And I’m so excited that I will be sharing the platform with singer/songwriter/author Gwen Smith. I dropped Gwen a note and told her that after reading her bio,  I’d rather lead music and let her do the teaching… only I can’t sing, or play an instrument. But I’d love to learn from Gwen.

We are going to having a great time. If you are in the area, I’d love for you to come out and join us.

For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy: 2:7
