Mother of Rain is one of the best books that I have read in the last five years. Karen Spears Zacharias has a wonderful sense of place, a terrific way with dialogue, and firm grip on the emotional potential of good story-telling. I will be recommending the book to all of my colleagues and friends.

Mr. Chambliss has nailed it. Mother of Rain is an extraordinary novel, with the richness of poetry and a true depth of meaning. I would tell you to hold back from rushing through it in order to savor the meaning packed in every paragraph, but you’re not liable to pay much attention, so let me just suggest that once you finish the first breathless gallop through the narrative, you reward yourself by turning to the beginning and taking a more leisurely time the second time around; it will pay off well.
