People are often perplexed or amused when I tell them that during my professional golf career, the most asked question in the PGA Tour Bible Study was always, “Who hits the ball: me or God?”
Presbyterians would answer confidently, “God hits the ball.”
Methodists would answer triumphantly, “You hit the ball.”
Anglicans-Episcopalians would answer ecumenically, “Both hit the ball.”
Baptists would answer exhortingly, “You guys are so heavenly-minded you’re no earthly good. Fuhgeddaboutit! Just knock the ball in the hole and win the lost for Jesus.”
Pentecostals would answer enthusiastically, “Let’s pray about it. Maybe God will reveal the answer as we speak in tongues.”
Catholics would answer softly, “Brothers, it’s a mystery.”
