Shameful Christians Host Bully Trump’s Pence Attack June 18, 2022

Developments are moving along regarding former President Donald Trump that are corroborating so much of what I posted about him on my Kermit Zarley Blog in about 350 posts written during mostly his presidency. Much of it is now in my book Bible Predicts Trump Fall.

This weekend, some evangelical Christians held their Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Nashville. Yesterday, they shamefully hosted former President Trump in which he gave a speech again attacking his former Vice President Mike Pence for not doing as Trump had demanded of him–overturn the 2020 election results on Certification Day before all 535 members of Congress.

Trump delivered a speech that day which, IMO and a growing number of Americans, caused the insurrection on the Capitol. It could easily have resulted in Pence’s death and perhaps that of other members of Congress. Only days after Trump vacated the White House, the House impeached him for “insurrection,” which was its second impeachment of this president, unprecedented in American history, but the Senate did not convict him either time since the high standard of a two thirds majority vote is required.

The House select committee investigating that Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, had its second and third televised hearings this week–on Monday and Thursday. Its third hearing sought to accomplish two things: (1) show that President Trump and many of his aides intentionally tried to overturn the election results with an illegal theory relating to an arguably ambiguous sentence in the Election Act of 1887, which they knew would be an illegal act, and (2) show that President Trump purposefully pressured Mike Pence to overturn the election results and therefore put his life in danger. Many of Pence’s aides and legal analysts stated in the Thursday hearing and afterwards on television that the committee succeeded in proving these two points by the evidence it presented, which consisted mostly of eyewitness testimony. Some aides, both Trump’s and Pence’s, testified that in a Trump-initiated phone call to Mike Pence on the morning of January 6th, 2021, Trump called Pence a “wimp” and a derogatory word referring to the female genitalia.

In Trump’s remarks yesterday at the Nashville conference he said, “I never called Mike Pence a wimp.” Yet the president’s own daughter Ivanka, a senior advisor to the president, was in the Oval Office on the morning of January 6th when Trump made that phone call to Pence. The committee showed her deposition video in which she testified that her father had accused Pence of being a “coward” and called him a “vulgar” term. Ivanka and her husband Jared, also a senior advisor to the president, had sat for eight hours during a deposition before the committee’s investigators. Some of that video testimony by Ivanka was shown in both the second and third hearings.

I thought Ivanka’s testimony was the strongest against the former president, her father, along with the testimony of Trump’s Attorney General, and thus head of the Department of Justice, William Barr. In the third hearing, much deposition video testimony was shown of Barr wherein he said he told Trump in early December, 2020, shortly before Barr resigned his office, that the legal theory that Trump’s attorney John Eastman had concocted, and Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani had advocated, was “bullshit.” Barr also stated that Trump was not interested in facts.
