Mid-Life, Michelle Obama’s Bangs, and Me

Mid-Life, Michelle Obama’s Bangs, and Me February 19, 2013

In trolling the CNN site tonight, I came across this video gem:

Yes, an entire segment on The Situation Room devoted to the First Lady’s recent decision to cut her bangs. She calls it her, “midlife crisis”.

Uh oh. This spells trouble for me — Michelle Obama was born on January 17, 1964, meaning that I was already six months old by the time she arrived on the scene. Do the math in your head and realize that with my fiftieth birthday approaching on June 15th, I too should be embroiled in my own midlife crisis!

I already made a solemn vow to my husband early in my married life that I wouldn’t wear bangs, so it looks like I’ll need to start investigating piercings and tattoos. Or maybe since the same constrictions the First Lady must endure (like the sports cars and bungee jumping she mentions in the video) don’t hold true in my life, then it’s finally time to get my next dream vehicle:

So what does the bible have to say about all this midlife angst:

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by a life that is just.
Proverbs 16:31

Now that I am old and gray, do not forsake me, God,
That I may proclaim your might to all generations yet to come
Psalm 71:18

Just as I suspected… nothing in there about bangs, or Harleys for that matter.

Your turn: What are you planning for your midlife crisis? How has aging impacted upon your spiritual life?
