The Barna Group recently put out a research study regarding the “Spiritual Profile” of the GLBT community. Since its release I have been asked quite a few questions (by media and by general audiences) about my thoughts regarding their study. Until now I haven’t made any statements because I think this study does not provide anything close to the “Surprising Insights” they claim (more on this later). Also, in my opinion their usage of “Spiritual Profile” is misleading because they don’t have... Read more

Joose – August 16, 2009 from Newsong Church on Vimeo. Here is my sermon (called: Aligning Our Expectations) from yesterday at Newsong Church, where Dave Gibbons (who just spoke at the infamous Willow Creek Leadership Summit) is the senior pastor. This was such a humbling experience. [Especially since I am secretly obsessed with Dave and Newsong!] Not only did this sermon get to be heard live by those at church, it also got broadcast live over the Internet as well... Read more

What is this? Here’s a summary. 8-16-09: Just because God commands, doesn’t mean we just know how to live it out. We have to LEARN to do so. Each year my goal is to read the Bible all the way through from cover to cover between January 1 and December 31. I have accomplished this goal each year since 2000. But it doesn’t look like I’m going to make it this year, and that bothers me. It bothers me not because I’m missing a goal, but because it means I’m not ingesting and spending enough time with my Lord’s words. I just feel more alive when I am reading... Read more

Here it is, the new Love is an Orientation Blog! Before I say anything else, I have to thank Adam McLane because he designed 100% of this new site! Not only that, but he has taken the time to try and teach an inept student of websites how to use this new and exciting (yes, confusing) technology. I could not have asked for a better friend. Adam: Thanks, and I love you very much. If you’re new to my blog,... Read more

I had a bad interview. Then I had a good one. I got hated on by a gay organization. Then I got hated on by a Christian one. I received a couple offensive emails calling me names. Then I received a couple encouraging emails giving me hope. I had a moving Living in the Tension gathering. Then I went home and cried. I got hated on once again by the same gay organization and the same Christian organization. I talked... Read more
