The Marin Foundation’s Director of Pastoral Care, Nathan Albert, will be speaking at the Micah 6:8 Conference being held at Park Community Church from June 4-5. Earlier today, Tim Schraeder  posted the interview on mercy, justice, and the GLBT community that he conducted with Nathan in anticipation for the upcoming conference. You can check out the interview Here. Updates from the speaking tour in the UK will be coming soon. Much love. www.themarinfoundation.org Read more

When I got to the airport everything went smooth. The gate was C21, and that’s sweet for me because Concourse C is where my favorite Chinese food is located. Excited as I was, I got to sprint towards my Chinese place and down a bunch of my favorite Orange Chicken with white rice! There is no better Orange Chicken in this world than at O’Hare! When I boarded the plane I got to my seat and realized that there weren’t... Read more

To all my homies who read this blog, The Marin Foundation needs some cool swag: Sw ‘ AAG: Sweet looking T-Shirts with a clever design and slogan to wear everywhere! I have absolutely zero artistic ability! So I am calling on your help. If you, or you know of someone who loves designing stuff like this, I’m starting a contest which will result in thousands (hopefully gazillions) of people pimping your work all over the world. Here are some ideas of slogan... Read more

Here’s Part 1 We then started to talk about sexual consumerism—no, not human trafficking, but rather sexuality being consumed to fuel one’s self worth and give them validity as ‘fully human’. So often people feel that they cannot be ‘fully human’ living in the way God created us as sexual beings without the ‘sexual’ part. But what so many miss is that God didn’t create us to idolatrize sexuality, but to be conformed to His image. And if His image... Read more

What is My One Sentence Bible? 3-31-10: God will punish the complacent. You have no excuse to continue doing ‘nothing other than what you’ve always done’. Zephaniah 1:12 On the Great Day of the Lord, God will first go to those seeking righteousness and humility. That number, Christian and non-Christian, might be a whole lot smaller than we actually think. Zephaniah 2:3 Today’s remnant are the meek and humble—the one’s God gave the world to as a blessing and reminder... Read more

Recently I was asked to participate in a private discussion with 15 other national leaders surrounding the topics of sexuality and theology. The group was made up of a few straight conservative evangelicals, a few straight progressive (“liberal”) evangelicals, a few straight mainline clergy members, a couple of academics, an HIV/AIDS physician, a Clinical Sexologist a gay celibate author or two and some GLBT clergy. Over the three days we met, there was an unbelievable array of topics covered – and more than a few thought... Read more

I don’t know Matthew Paul Turner. I’ve never talked to him nor have I ever met him—but I now feel like he’s my BFF! Reading Hear No Evil is literally like having a conversation with your best friend. It’s full of comfort, humor and extreme awkwardness, and that’s only the first couple of pages. Why I love this book so much is because I found myself squirming around, at times getting upset at what Turner was saying and then at... Read more

What is My One Sentence Bible? 3-30-10: Don’t think God doesn’t hear your prayers. He might even raise up your enemy to help you out. Habakkuk 1:1-11 Instead of questioning God as to why He would allow such horrendous things to happen in our world, look instead inside yourself and your faith, which compels you to become the medium of change to those horrendous things. Habakkuk 1:12-2:20 Why do you long for the ‘famous God of lore’ when that God... Read more

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot lately. I often hear straight Christians talk about the GLBT community as ‘living in sin’. What does that mean? I’m being serious. My default is: Are we not all literally living in sin, no matter who we are or what we’re doing (Romans 3:23)? James 2:10 (my translation) says: “If you’ve committed one sin, it’s like you’ve committed them all.” There is no hierarchy in that statement. So what separates GLBT sin from the next? Here are... Read more
