I wonder if this might account for the heightened degrees of anger and hostility in our culture today. I looked at the actual quotes from Archbishop Tobin. I looked at what he and Governor Spence said to one another and how they said it. Much about prayerful this and respectfully disagree that. And then I looked at how the article framed it. Harry vs. Voldemort, Luke and Vader. Good and evil. Gushing praise and contempt and judgement. Interesting. And of course those Darth Voldemorts are always on that side of any debate. Not like us saintly types who fight on the side of the angelic legions. I like what the Archbishop did. But more than anything, and in proud defiance of the Internet Nation’s preferred tactics such as those displayed in the article, I like how he did it. Just a first impression.

I don’t know how anyone can be enjoying the Catholic Church any more with Pope Francis’ latest statements.

He just repudiated almost 2,000 years of history by saying the Jews don’t have to go through Jesus Christ to be saved.

The pope needs to read the scriptures because he might have just led the Catholic Church into committing suicide.

    John 14:6.
I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

    Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

    Hebrews 8:13

In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

The Vatican just declared the old covenant is still in effect for the Jews and that they don’t need Jesus to be saved after trying to convert them for 1800 years.

Really, Pope Francis, how is one saved without receiving Jesus Christ and acknowledging him as we are told to do in Romans 10:9?

Catholics Should Not Try To Convert Jews, Vatican Says

    • This has been badly misreported and widely so.

“While there is a principled rejection of an institutional Jewish mission,
Christians are nonetheless called to bear witness to their faith in
Jesus Christ also to Jews, although they should do so in a humble and
sensitive manner, acknowledging that Jews are bearers of God’s Word, and particularly in view of the great tragedy of the Shoah.”

Jews aren’t to be subject to a specific mission, but I don’t think they have been for awhile now. If/When they are to be converted is a bit “left to God” but the media acted like the report favored the idea other religions are a source of salvation and I’m pretty sure it didn’t.

Why is this reported the way it is then? Because the news media basically doesn’t understand Catholicism at all and reads it the way they want to hear it. This Pope is “the liberal Pope”, and in fairness I think he really is more sympathetic to progressives and Leftists than the two previous ones, so everything is read with that spin. If this had come out under the last Pope the headline might be like

“Panzer Pope says Christians are called to bear witness to Jews.”

Oh “the new civil rights movement” a gay advocacy group. Im sure they have their sights on the good bishop as well.

And for those who think Pope Francis is such a heretic or at least a bit looney it would do you well to study the history of the popes. If the holy father Francis digs up the grave of JP2, puts him on trial and parades him through the streets of Rome even then I will love the Church.

And I don’t fully agree with Pence on the immigration issue but there is a difference between being wrong and being hateful. Who here is ready to call him Hitler?

What about the people here in this country who cannot find homes affordable enough to live? Are we to abandon our people to help others? That’s not Christian. You must love your neighbor as you love yourself. And, to love God with all your mind, heart, and strength. If you are neglecting your own people, and possibly even your family, but going to assist refugees, that’s blatant neglect. We need to spend the resources wisely first on people here in our land first, and then go and help other people. Your family, your countrymen come first, then those who follow after – not the other way around. Also, you do not violate the properly edified laws of this country, either. It’s one thing to help refugees. It’s another thing to violate the laws of which are for the the security and well being of the public good when doing so. Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s. God made man in His image and likeness – He made Caesar. Caesar’s life is accountable to Him. And so is the life of the American public. Assisting refugees, but neglecting the laws of men – the ones which are for the well regard, respect, and welfare of men – is not justice, nor even an act of mercy, or even charity, but a blatant disregard for them. Remember, in Glory to God in the Highest, and Peace on earth to men of goodwill. If that goodwill of men who serve out our laws for the protection and welfare of the public is disarmed, that’s a clear counter to the very beginning of the Glory rendered to God. Again, there’s nothing wrong in helping people – even refugees. But, if you neglect the welfare of your own – particularly your family, and even your countrymen for the sake of refugees, then you gain the whole wold and lose your own soul. How so? Because, you are doing it for vain glory. People are assisting refugees for either recognition, attention, for their own satisfaction, and not for the Glory of God. For no such Glory given to Him would violate rendering to Caesar’s what rightfully his as God made him and what he is – and that is also the law abiding order of the state – the law.
