Review: Love Magic

When I got this book I figured it would be just another book of love spells. While I was technically right, I was completely wrong. Love Magic: Over 250 Spells and Potions for Getting it, Keeping it, and Making it Last by Lilith Dorsey was a great read. The book is full of so many wonderful spells, baths, oils, candles, recipes and rituals to not only invite love into your life, but to strengthen and maintain it. There are two things that make this book unique among a myriad of books on love magick; Dorsey’s magickal background that she brings into the book and the areas of love that she covers. Dorsey’s magickal background includes Celtic Paganism, Afro-Caribbean, and Native American spirituality. She holds initiations in Santeria, Vodoun, and New Orleans Voodoo. She takes all of this background along with Hoodoo and Wicca, and presents the techniques surrounding love mixed in with the wisdom of her experiences.

The strength of this book is the areas of love she covers. This book isn’t just about using magick to find your right partner (though that’s definitely included). There’s so much information on self-love and happiness, getting laid, sex magick, and having better sex, marriages and handfastings, fertility, love for friends, love for family, love in the home, and love for pets all jammed into this book, allowing it to cover the whole spectrum of types of love. There’s also spells for removing jealousy, getting rid of a lover, and even spells to get a lover back.
