Gold Star and Military Families Respond to Trump
Several Veterans groups rallied for the Khan family and demanded an apology from Trump, which really turned this story from just an epic “moment” into a battle. VoteVets released a Gold Star Families letter, which expressed their “dismay at his treatment of the family of CPT Humayun Khan, and demanded an apology.” The letter, signed by several Gold Star family members, stated:
Your recent comments regarding the Khan family were repugnant, and personally offensive to us. When you question a mother’s pain, by implying that her religion, not her grief, kept from addressing an arena of people, you are attacking us. When you say your job building buildings is akin to our sacrifice, you are attacking our sacrifice. … This goes beyond politics. This is about a sense of decency. That kind of decency you mock as “political correctness.”
These Gold Star families weren’t the only ones upset and ready to fight back.
