Yes, more crows! It is my great pleasure to give away this ORIGINAL woodcut of 4 crows. It is done on Arches acid-free watercolor paper. It measure approximately 5″x7″ (12.5cm x 17.5). I rubbed the four crows onto the paper from the wood block. When they dried, I then used masking agent to block out the moon. After that dried I applied the watercolor paint to create the sky. When that dried I rubbed off the masking agent. There you... Read more
Lisa and I went away for a few days to enjoy our 30th anniversary. And we did enjoy it. We had a wonderful rest with some extended times of good conversation. One of the things we talked about, with tears, was all the friends we have lost over the years. All because of the church. Of all the people we’ve known outside of the church, this kind of thing hardly ever happens. People are just friends, and their jobs and... Read more
This is an older t-shirt idea. Lisa and I never watch TV, but we were hanging out in our hotel room and clicked on the TV and caught part of American Idol. Jamie Fox was helping the musicians. A part of his thing was to give the musicians a t-shirt with “artist” written across the front… a helpful reminder to them and others of who they are. The same would apply to this t-shirt. Maybe we should all wear one... Read more
This is an older cartoon that I created a few years ago. It is one of my favorites. Very minimalist. To the point. And it is very appropriate for me lately. My life is filled with a pregnant silence right now. If you are a faithful reader of nakedpastor, you will notice that I haven’t been writing as much since I left the professional ministry. Even though many of you are encouraging me in positive ways, I still struggle with... Read more
A couple of things to mention: We didn’t go to our church again yesterday. We heard from several people that they missed us. The new pastor, who is my good friend, called me today to see how we were doing. We had a nice long chat. He’s a great pastor and I recommend him to local people who are looking for one. And I recommend Rothesay Vineyard to anyone looking for a unique church that I think is quite healthy,... Read more
To pencils, erasers are an incredible and unsettling threat. In fact, they are their worst enemy. The eraser is the deconstructionist. The eraser is the one that can overturn the life-long work of the pencil. The eraser is a tenacious testimony to the transience of all the pencil does and documents. If the pencil would humble itself and work with the eraser, writing and erasing, testing and trying, discovering and discarding, casting off and keeping, who knows what good could... Read more
I don’t normally post on Sunday evenings, but I just wanted to put up a few of my paintings that were at the gallery hop Friday. They are all ACEOs (Art Cards Editions and Originals), and they measure the same as a baseball or hockey card, etc.: 2.5″x3.5″. Many call my art bleak but contemplative, moody but serene, lonely but peaceful, menacing but mystical. Etc., etc. I don’t try to paint in any way. I just paint. WINTER APPLE TREE:... Read more
I must tell you it is still a very strange feeling not “going” to church. I know I know. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard you don’t “go” to church, you “be” the church. Ya. That makes sense on one level, such as I am a part of the Hayward family. However, it’s really nice to get together with a clump of other parts of the Hayward family. You get my meaning. There should be something very special,... Read more
