Lori Alexander’s ‘USA Today’ Interview Didn’t Happen?

I’ve never thought that USA Today was particularly good at journalism. Most of the pieces seem like journalism lite in small bites. Not that there’s anything really wrong with that. Not everyone starts their day with the Washington Post and the New York Times.

Lori Alexander has been bragging in her chat room and Facebook page about an interview she just did with a journalist with USA Today and how positive it was. I admit I was curious. Usually when a journal is β€˜nice’ during an interview you cannot automatically think you’re getting the sweetheart edit. Knowing how insulting, sneering and downright mean Lori can be on her blog and to her commenters I felt pretty sure it wasn’t going to be a cake walk.

Turns out I was wrong. But so was Lori. It was not published on USA Today but on one of their subsidiaries – Daily Advertiser. Have you heard of it?

The piece is titled β€˜The Story Behind the Transformed Wife’ and is a puff piece with many lies. The writer, Shari Puterman, did no research it looks like. If she had she would have seen that Lori was no career woman and not much of a working mother. Lori worked as an elementary school teacher for a few short years before deliberately poking a hole in her diaphragm so she could stay home with her kids.

The writer also never picks up on the fact that Lori uses her misinterpretations of the Bible to justify what seems like a raging case of agoraphobia.

Lori has been busy all day telling others that this will be published shortly on USA Today. I don’t see it. It’s not that interesting, she’s not famous and most of the women that read the paper would likely thing her views are regressive and harmful. Time will tell.

What do you think?
