Quiverfull Marriage is Inherently Violent?

Quiverfull Marriage is Inherently Violent?

Not much in the way of words tonight. Just memes. Several I found on Facebook today and one I made. These guys, Tim Bayly and Doug Wilson make marriage sound violent and awful instead of the joining of two best friends.

Starting off a marriage thinking the other partner is a foe is a recipe for disaster of the worst kind.Β  A wedding should have nothing in common with a disastrous battle like Appomattox. Why Tim Bayly references Versailles confuses me, is he speaking to the luxurious manner of many weddings, or when the peasants stormed Versailles and hauled off Marie Antoinette?

From the Facebook group β€˜Summer, I found the Patriarchy’ from the same piece as above.Β  Velvet gloved violence is still violence, and again, violence has no place in a marriage. If your husband is violent with you please get out!

No, no one owns you. That hasn’t been legal since the 1860s. President Lincoln outlawed the ownership of one person by another. Carrying a child has nothing to do with ownership. This isn’t a marriage either.

Interesting that Doug brings up prescription drugs. Do you know which population has the highest usage of Prozac and other drugs for depression? Very religious communities. Found on Facebook in Spiritual Sounding Board, a wonderful site run by Kathi and Julie Ann.

There is nothing about marriage that any of these guys says that appeals at all. If you marry into Quiverfull you can expect to be owned, to be exposed to violence, to be denied medical care, to be viewed as weaker, less than, as a foe.
