Did Trump Expose Classified Information While Defending “Wiretapping” Claims?

Trump has been backtracking on his “wiretapping” claim both personally and through surrogates almost since he sent his now infamous tweet. The seemingly baseless claim that President Obama had him wiretapped prior to the election is explosive and got lots of attention. But, like many things Trump and his supporters claim, it has no factual support. So they are doing damage control by minimizing the magnitude of the charge, by playing word-games, and by simply assuming Americans are very stupid.

Trump’s tweets are impulsive and completely unchecked or filtered by more thoughtful minds. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, when asked directly about who he consults with, Trump responded:

CARLSON:  Do you talk to anyone before you tweet?  And is there anyone in the White House who can say to you, Mr. President, please don’t tweet that, who you would listen to?

TRUMP:  Well, let me tell you about Twitter.  I think that maybe I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Twitter, because I get such a fake press, such a dishonest press.  I mean, if you look at — and I’m not including Fox, because I think Fox has been fair to me, but if you look at CNN and if you look at these other networks, NBC — I made a fortune for NBC with “The Apprentice”.  I had a top show where they were doing horribly, and I had one of the most successful reality shows of all time.  I made — and I was on 14 seasons.  And you see what happened when I’m not on.  You saw what happened to the show was a disaster.  I was on — I was very good to NBC, and I — they are despicable.  They’re despicable in their coverage.

Lost in the insane jumble of Trump backtracking and Trumpsplaining his “wire tapping” claim is a statement that should confirm that he cannot be trusted with confidential information. In his rambling defense he told us:

“And, by the way, with the CIA, I just want people to know, the CIA was hacked, and a lot of things taken — that was during the Obama years.”

He is, it is assumed by most, referring to the recent Wikileaks dump of 9000 documents. Until now everyone was led to believe they were leaked documents with most fingers pointed at contractors. But, no, I am pretty sure they were part of a hack against the CIA. Or, and this is an important point, there is a successful hack we are unaware of. Something big, damaging, and highly classified.

Either way, as we see on a regular basis, Trump has a juvenile compulsion to tweet rumors when he can pick up the phone and get the truth in minutes. Why are Republicans and conservatives so quiet about this? Why are they so complacent when it comes to the national security of the nation they loudly and often proclaim their love for? It’s that power thing, right? Anything for power! Sad. And hypocritical.

Now the members of the American intelligence community need to protect America from its own president. And that is truly bad for all of us.
