The Nevada Caucus is next up in the nominating process for the Democratic candidate for President of the United States.
So far, we’ve had one caucus in Iowa, which belly-flopped, and an election in New Hampshire. These two votes have shown that Dems are wary of Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders has a committed following, Pete Buttigieg is running stronger than anybody expected, and — Surprise ! — Amy Klobuchar is moving up. These votes didn’t tell us much of anything about Mike Bloomberg because he wasn’t on the ballot.
It’s a horse race folks and unless you’re so battered by Trump’s evil that you can’t enjoy much of anything, it’s fun. I enjoy watching Democracy in all its messy action. This is a big part of what America is about. This is who we are.
We’ve got an elderly Jewish guy with fly-away hair, a religious gay guy of the liberal flavor of religion, a moderate woman from the snow belt and another liberal woman from the same state that threw JFK. Somewhere back in the crowd we have a former Vice President of the United States who’s survived more horrific tragedy in his life than any one person should have to endure and somehow or other keeps on ticking, and off on the side rail, but moving up, we see an erstwhile billionaire who says that he’s willing to spend his entire fortune to stop the monster who is destroying our democracy.
For sheer grit, these people put the Boston Marathon all in the dirt. When it comes to happy, healthy democracy-in-action entertainment, they are — all of them — the best.
I honor anyone who has the grit and guts to take on the traitorous sexual predator in the White House. I do not and I will not support him because he is a traitorous sexual predator.
I don’t support sexual predators. I never have. I never will.
As bad as the sexual predator part is, the traitor part lays everything else right down on the ground. Trump is a traitor.
Let me repeat that: Trump is a traitor.
Nothing else — nothing else — is more important than that.
If we want to survive as a free nation, we have got to beat Trump in November.
Nothing is more important than that.
That sounds grim, and it is. But don’t let it keep you from enjoying the fun of the good old-fashioned horse-race we have right in front of us.Don’t get tripped up on searching for the perfect candidate who will reflect all your values, hopes and aspirations on various issues. We’re saving our country folks. Nothing else matters.
One of these people will be out there in a few months, doing battle with the orange-haired, too-much-makeup fat guy who has sold this country out to a hostile foreign power. He’s mean, he’s vicious, he’s amoral. He brags and lies, belittles and mocks, abuses power, manipulates, bullies and — did I say he lies?? — he lies so much, that it’s worth saying twice. He lies. If he’s talking, he’s lying.
This is our chance to save America. This election.
We are witnessing the run-up to the last chance we have to save this country in this nominating process. Personally, I don’t care who wins, just so long as they can beat Trump.
I know I’m not going to like a lot of things they will do if they win. But at this point, I will support anyone who isn’t a traitor to this country.
That’s all that matters. Trump is a traitor.
The horse race we’re watching is turning into a nail biter. We’re going into Nevada. I’m thinking that the Mayor from South Bend will do well. Gay people have been practicing how to organize and get their folk out to caucuses for a long time now. They’re good at it. And they’re motivated.
I imagine the fact that an openly gay man is actually in the running for the nomination of a major party as their candidate for President of the United States is both incredible and over-the-top motivating for them. So I’m guessing he’ll do well.
Both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have built-in machines from previous races. Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren are handicapped because they had to spend time in Washington during the impeachment votes.
A lot of voters want more than anything to see someone like themselves on the ballot. I personally think that America’s refusal to elect a woman is becoming a national embarrassment. Women are heads of state all around the globe. England had their first female head of state 500 years ago. But not here. However, I’m not about to get hung up on that at this time.
I think that there are a lot of people who are like me. We aren’t in this to fulfill aspirations. We are going to political war to save this country.
If I lived in Nevada, you’d better believe I’d be at the caucus. You’d also better believe that I’d vote for the person I thought had the best chance of stopping traitor Trump from destroying America.
I love this country. This election is my chance to fight for it. I’m going to take it.
