We’re Back! A Bit About Our Four Seasons Maui Vacation

We’re Back! A Bit About Our Four Seasons Maui Vacation September 25, 2015

After a long, grueling week of sipping fruity drinks on the beach at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, I’m back in Dallas and back to blogging.

If you follow us on Instagram, then you know we had so much fun on our trip. So much fun in fact that Catherine won’t stop talking about how much she wishes she were still there. Anyway, many of you have asked about our trip- things we would recommend, places we visited, etc. so I thought today would be a good day to answer those questions.

In fact, we usually don’t plan anything. We prefer to wake up in the morning and see where the day takes us. However we did have a short list of things we wanted to try (mostly restaurants) which were recommended to us by you guys on Instagram.

First, I have to say that our jaws dropped when we pulled up to the Four Seasons. This hotel was absolutely stunning. As you walk through the entrance, you’re immediately met by a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and a beautiful beach along side of it. After being greeted with views of paradise, we knew the first thing we wanted to do on Day 1 was nothing at all. And by nothing I mean lay by the pool, read our books like an old married couple, and order food and drinks without moving all day. I’m a firm believer that vacations should be relaxing and recharging and the “do nothing approach” is a good way to accomplish both. I should also mention that the staff at Four Seasons is incredible. Everyone who works there went out of their way to accommodate us and they were all so personable and friendly. Easy to see why Four Seasons has such a great reputation.

IMG_3224On day two we felt like having an adventure so we rented a Jeep and with no plans at all, just started driving. This was probably my favorite day of our vacation. We made our way up the western coast of the island to Lahaina Town where there’s tons of shops and restaurants and we also stopped by Kanapali Beach. I think I liked this day so much because I kept thinking to myself “I can’t believe you’re here with her”. A few years ago I never would have dreamed that I’d be cruising a Maui with my wife by my side. It was kind of a surreal day for me. We spent the afternoon walking through shops hand in hand and just being grateful for the vacation and for our lives together.

For the next five days, we did more of the same- a lot of relaxation on the beach or by the pool mixed with some exploration of the island. On the last night, the great people at Four Seasons surprised us with something they call “The Ultimate Dinner”. It was a seven course meal on the beach created specifically for us by their head chef. Let me just say it was the best meal of my life. It was three hours of eating the most delicious food I’ve ever had and at the end, Catherine had to roll me back to the room because I couldn’t move. I’m having food sweats just thinking about it.

Overall Catherine and I both agreed it was the best vacation we’ve ever taken. If you’re looking for a place to travel, I definitely suggest Maui.
