Following after the theme of last week’s “driving” songs, here’s the word on the street.
I know this is where the sidewalk ends …
“59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy),” Simon and Garfunkel
“Accidently Kelly Street,” Frente
“Across 110th Street,” Bobby Womack
“Alphabet Street,” Prince
“Fannin Street,” Tom Waits
“In the Streets of Boston,” Dropkick Murphys
“Joey’s on the Street Again,” Boomtown Rats
“Killermont Street,” Aztec Camera
“Moon Over Bourbon Street,” Sting
“On Hyndford Street,” Van Morrison
“On My Street,” Hoodoo Gurus
“Papa Dance on Olvera Street,” Terry Taylor
“Positively Fourth Street,” Billy Bragg
“Street Spirit (Fade Out),” Radiohead
“Streets of Baltimore,” Gram Parsons
“Streets of Baltimore,” The Little Willies
“Streets of Rome,” Rick Elias
“Sullivan Street,” Counting Crows
“Takin’ It to the Streets,” The Doobie Brothers
“These Streets,” Paolo Nutini
“Walking Down Your Street,” The Bangles
“Where the Streets Have No Name,” U2
“Yazoo Street Scandal,” The Band
That list was already way too long, so I’ve filtered out the Springsteen as a separate list:
“Backstreets”
“Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?”
“The E Street Shuffle”
“Incident on 57th Street”
“Racing in the Street”
“Racing in the Street” (Townes Van Zandt)
“Streets of Fire”
“Streets of Philadelphia”
The “E Street Shuffle” there is Bruce and his band playing along with The Roots in Denmark. The Roots seem to be able to sit in with anyone on any song, anywhere. The last time I saw them live was in a Germantown schoolyard, as the opening act for President Obama. I really hope to get to see that same tour next year.
