Ronda Rousey Keeps An Important Promise After Her First Ever Defeat

Ronda Rousey Keeps An Important Promise After Her First Ever Defeat 2015-12-16T08:47:22-07:00

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has been on the front of sports pages and magazines nationwide lately for losing her first ever match and championship belt. As the highest paid fighter in the UFC and one of the biggest superstars in the world who starred in Entourage and Furious 7 this past year, it would be understandable if Rousey chose to take the rest of the year off after her stunning defeat.

And average superstars probably would wallow and brush off the rest of the world. But what I love about Rousey is that she isn’t your average superstar. She speaks her mind, kicks butt, and takes no prisoners – whether it’s whiney feminists or haters that complain and do nothing else.

So she didn’t let this minor setback stop her from fulfilling a promise she had made to a Marine whose online video asking Rousey to the Marine Corps Ball went viral this past fall.

Rousey attended the Marine Corps Ball in South Carolina Friday night, which is something she committed to doing after accepting a video invitation from Lance Corporal Jarrod Haschert in September. Haschert recorded a video asking Rousey to the ball, and the video ended up being viewed over four million times. Rousey eventually accepted the invitation.

Following her loss to Holm, Rousey has mostly avoided the public eye and even shielded herself from photographers. But she perked up enough to make the public appearance and seemed to be all smiles at the event.

I think her instagram after the all says it all:

Good for you, Rowdy Ronda Rousey! Way to pick yourself back up and give a night of your life for the men who fight at the far reaches of the Earth for our freedoms. I’m glad that you’re outspoken and a strong woman who isn’t afraid to speak your mind.

Hope you had fun at the Marine Corps Ball and I can’t wait for your rematch with Holly Holm.

And, to all of you Marines out there — thank you for your service!
