Preparations for the Expanded and Enhanced 2012 Craft Brewery Pilgrimage continue at a fever pace. If I say so myself, I have been relentless in my research efforts.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in research so far. Please let me know if you are able to help. Every good researcher knows the value of collaboration, and of collecting as much data as possible.
My pilgrimages have several missions. Recognizing the strong historic connections between monastic life and brewing beer, and the significant contributions monks have made to brewing, we explore those connections. In addition, we celebrate Southern California growing appreciation. I always enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories in real life; this is a great, relaxed way to do that. And, we highlight a different nonprofit organization at each stop.
I recently visited two strong candidates.
Jan and I visited Tustin Brewery to begin discussing craft brewing for wine lovers. A restaurant as well as a place to experience great craft brews, we explored how what you drink can enhance the taste of what you are eating. While we stayed in the dark end of the tasting pool, Tustin Brewery offers a full range of their own great brews, as well as guest brews from local breweries. We had a wonderful experience, and are looking forward to visiting again during 2012.
I also visited San Pedro Brewing Company with Gayle and Wes on my birthday. Yes, I am so dedicated that I even did research on my birthday. Strategically, San Pedro Brewing Company also serves excellent food, and gave me a free entree because it was the week of my birthday. Monastically, the beer was excellent. I had a full taster flight, as well as a pint of SolCal Tattoo Chocolate Porter. I even got to meet James Brown, who owns San Pedro Brewing Company. I am looking forward to returning soon.
The next Craft Brewery Pilgrimage will begin in February!
Plan now to become a Craft Brewery Pilgrim in 2012.
