Walking is important to me. I know that people in Southern California have a reputation for driving everywhere, but I am a walker.
For me, walking is a good way to combine action and contemplation. Walking gives me an opportunity to go from place to place in a way that helps me relax, helps my posture, and helps my breathing. It does not require any special equipment or skill; I have been walking since I was very young.
I walk quite a bit. It may take a little more time to get around, but I see that as an added benefit. I have time to reflect and get my thoughts in order, and I do not need to worry about finding a parking space. Pasadena is a fairly good place to walk, and many of the places I go are within walking distance.
Now that the days are getting longer and it is light earlier in the mornings and later in the evenings, it is even better to go for a nice, long walk.
It gets harder and harder for me to spend all day sitting in meetings. I find that people think and behave differently when they walk, and I often walk with the people with whom I am working. It can be very meaningful to walk with someone without talking as we look and listen for the lessons that the world has for us that day.
You can learn a lot about someone by the way they walk. You can see whether they are in a hurry, tentative, or relaxed. You can tell how much they are used to walking, and how comfortable their shoes are.
Would you like to take a walk with me?
What are the lessons the world has for you today?
