Each of us is on a voyage of discovery.
Each of us is sailing into uncharted waters, seeking a destination which often feels uncertain. We face challenges and obstacles, and are at the mercy of the winds and the waves. Even more daunting is that we are each making our way alone.
We start from a place where we are comfortable, a place we feel at home. Our voyage requires that we leave behind the comforts and confidence we have known and put ourselves to the test. Our sense of balance and rightness, our understanding of reality, our physical health, the strength of our character and the strength of our will, all may be strained near the breaking point as we sail ahead.
Why would we do this to ourselves? Why would we put everything in jeopardy? What reward could possibly justify all this effort and taking these risks?
While the reward is significant, the fact is that we have no choice. We are compelled forward without the ability to turn back.
Each of us is on a voyage to discover ourselves.
Our truest, deepest selves are hidden, and we do not know the way to recover ourselves. The quest requires great courage and great enterprise, resourcefulness and perseverance. There are risks, but the risks of not making the journey are even greater.
It took me years to realize that I was not living my own core values, my own vision for myself. It took me even longer to be willing to set out on my own voyage. Now I know that the journey is worth the risk, but I will never recover the time I spend waiting and afraid to begin.
What risks are you willing to take to be who you truly are?
What is holding you back?
