Reflections on Reflection Days

The Huntington Library has asked me not to hold quarterly Reflection Days on their grounds.

I had worked out the arrangements and scheduled dates with them before I began inviting people to participate. They decided that, while they had seen the Reflection Days as group visits, they now view them as events which must be sponsored and presented by the Huntington.

I recognize that they have every right to change their mind, and every right to ask me not to hold Reflection Days on the grounds.

The Huntington Library is an exemplary research library, and the grounds are an excellent place to spend time in reflection. I have gained a great deal from the hours I have spent hours in the gardens, the art galleries, and the informative exhibits at the Huntington.

I am sorry that I will not be able to host Reflection Days at the Huntington. I hope to find another location soon.

If you were planning to attend the Reflection Day next month, you still have options.

You can invest in my online Reflection Day and facilitate your own day of quiet and solitude anywhere you would like to go. It might not be as much fun as if I were with you, but you can also include an hour of spiritual direction.

You could plan now to participate in the Reflection Day on August 11 at Blue Heron Farm, a bed & breakfast located on an organic farm in Oceanside. There is more information on the Reflection Days page.

I would also appreciate any suggestions you might have of other locations that would provide a good home for a day away. The key elements are a place that has some quiet spaces and enough room to accomodate a little solitude.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you will spend some time on Saturday, July 14 in quiet reflection.
