The Day After the End

The Day After the End

There is a great deal of anticipation around the world about Friday, December 21, 2012. Some believe that 12-21-12 will be the date that the world will end; others believe it will mark the dawn of a new era in world history.

It is a question of very significant personal interest for me. December 21 this year, like every year, is the day before my birthday.

Every year, my birthday is three days before Christmas Day; this year, it could be the day after the end.

People have been asking whether I plan to do anything in particular for this birthday, before it actually arrives, just in case.

I have encouraged people to throw early surprise parties for me and to make sure that they send valuable gifts with plenty of time to arrive. I woud hate for the world to end and leave them feeling regretful or left out.

As I considered what to do, I realized that I had already made my choice.

It is true that we do not know what will happen on 12-21-12, which makes it the same as every other day. Our days are filled with people and events that are beyond our expectations. Each day contains life-ending and life-changing moments. Each moment is filled with potential; potential to make us weep, to make us laugh so hard we cannot stop, potential to know ourselves more deeply, potential to change how we appreciate the world around us.

How we experience our world does not depend on the numbers in the date, nor the math and wisdom of ancient civilizations. We create our world each day, and it is new every morning.

The world ends each evening; the world begins each morning.

Have an amazing day!

How will you spend 12-21-12?
