Being Ready

Being Ready January 24, 2013

I do an excellent job of planning and preparing.

I can foresee a very wide variety of potential obstacles and challenges, and design effective steps to overcome them. I am excellent at seeing worst case scenarios and finding ways to prevail over them. I do exhaustive research to learn as much as I can about people, places, and possible tools. I am very good at assessing the costs and benefits of various options.

I can be very strategic. Planning and preparation are like a game to me, and I enjoy winning the game.

Getting ready can be important.

Getting ready can be a crucial part of being ready. It can also be a significant distraction.

I have focused years of time and effort on making sure I was completely ready to take a step that I was never willing to take. Planning and preparing were ways for me to avoid the fact that I was ready, and I was afraid.

Getting ready is not the same as being ready.

The strengths that help me do a good job of planning and preparation can get me stuck in getting ready. There is always another variable to be considered, always another eventuality to be solved. When you are good at preparing, people want you to help them prepare. It is easy to avoid the risk of putting your plans into action.

It is easy not to recognize that you are ready.

The most important part of planning and preparation is leaving them behind and getting started. The most important part of getting ready is when you recognize that you are ready to begin.

All the planning and preparation you can do is valuable only when you are ready to take the first step.

What are you waiting for?

Are you ready?
