Leadership is built on depth.

I am able to lead with authenticity and integrity only as I recognize and appreciate who I really am. My leadership grows out of my core values, and is encouraged and fed by the time I spend in reflection. I am not leading when I simply meet the expectations of other people; my leadership is grounded in who I am and who I am becoming. Leadership flows out of wisdom.

At the same time, leadership is also built on action.

Leaders set a direction, communicate a vision, and get things done. My leadership is working with people to get results. Leadership is more than awareness, it achieves meaningful, measurable goals and objectives. Strong leadership  is tangible and clear. Leadership sparks action.

Leaders who know their own true selves inspire the people around them. Leaders who are clear motivate the people around them.

Strategy is how we do both.

Strategy is more than planning and preparing.

Strategy is the bridge that takes us from the depth of who we are at our deepest selves to what we can achieve together.

Like any strong bridge, our strategy needs a solid foundation and support. Strategy is suspended from towers of depth and action that are based in the bedrock of our core values and principles, along with our leadership vision. Strategy is tied together with the cables of meaningful, measurable goals and objectives.

Leaders build bridges of strategy in many different ways. Some strategies are urgent, crossing time-sensitive channels. Some are built with flexibility, and some are built with durability to last without changes or repair.

Leaders build strategies to put our core values into practice.

What helps you span the gulf and put your core values into practice?

How do you translate your own depth into action?
