Leadership Opens the Door

I know people in positions of leadership who expect others to open doors for them. There is always someone there to get them where they need to go. They are confident that someone will be there with an umbrella when it is raining. They know that someone else has made arrangements for them. They have people to take care of them.

The leaders who inspire me open doors.

Many of us live lives in a long corridor. Some of us are insecure about what might be waiting behind some of the doors in the corridor; we want to make sure we open only the right ones. Some of us are in such a hurry to get down the hall that we do not even see most of the doors. Some of us see the doors as distractions, keeping us from our important responsibilities. Some of us are lost and confused about why we are in this corridor at all.

The leaders who inspire me open doors for themselves. They have the courage and curiosity to explore, to discover what is waiting for them. They do not wait for someone else to open doors for them.

The more they explore their own doors, the more they tend to encourage other people to open their own doors.

They recognize the value we receive by being open to what has been hidden. Their curiosity and courage spread to the people around them. As doors open for the people with whom they work, their teams and organizations are transformed. They become companies, teams, and other groups that open doors for people.

Doors are opened, rooms are explored, light and fresh air are spread.

Does your leadership open doors for people?

What doors are you opening for yourself today?
