What does healthy spiritual life look like? How does it feel?
I know people who believe that spiritual health is about what they know. When they have the right answers to important questions, their spiritual life is healthy. I have believed that myself.
I know people who believe that spiritual health is about what they do. When they follow certain practices, exercise their spiritual muscles, they build up spiritual strength.
I know people who believe they are spiritually healthy when God gives them a word. They hear the voice of God, unless a spiritual problem or illness keeps it from them.
I know people who believe that there are certain locations that are closer to deep spiritual truths. They go there to find deeper truth.
I know people who believe that when they are spiritually healthy, the rest of their lives come together well. They are happier, more prosperous, and free of fear. When they are healthy they are blessed.
For me, healthy spiritual life is about listening to the Sacred in the everyday. No matter where I am, what I do, what I know, how I feel.
We fill our lives with things that distract us from the Depth all around us. We create requirements and checklists. We need to hear this piece of music or attend that conference. If only we understand that or experience this, we can achieve a healthy spiritual life.
For me, healthy spiritual life is not something we achieve. It is about pausing, breathing, being open.
Healthy spiritual life is paying attention to the lesson of each moment.
I listen to the silence. I take a breath, and another. Deep, sacred truth floods my soul. It fills me and pours out into the world around me.
How do you experience healthy spiritual life?
Can you hear the lesson the silence is trying to teach you?
