Leadership is Starting Over and Over Again

Leaders are beginners, and they always will be.

Each moment is an opportunity to begin again. We have no real choice.

We are not able to go back and change what we have already done. We cannot apply new knowledge and insight to our past actions. Regret does us no good.

We are not able to leap into the future. Anxiety and fear do not benefit us.

We cannot even stop and sit in the moment, doing nothing.

Each moment teaches us lessons of its own, but we can only apply them by beginning again.

Each day is filled with new beginnings.

My day begins when I open my eyes. I spend the rest of my day remembering to open my eyes to the potential and the lessons of each moment. I work to develop habits that wake me up to new ways to open myself to each moment.

Our days are like plants on which the buds are getting ready to bloom. They are filled with potential. As the blossoms emerge, everything will change.

The leaders who inspire me are like gardeners and farmers who tend their plants, bringing out the best in them. They give them the food and water they need. They keep weeds from distracting them, robbing them of what helps them become what they can be. They care for them with the goal of encouraging them to be as productive as they can.

Leadership is about making new beginnings, over and over again. We become leaders by opening our eyes to the possibilities all around us, and in the people around us.

Each moment is saturated with potential new beginnings. Are you a beginner?

How are you planning to make new beginnings today?

What new beginning could you make right now?
