For longer than I can remember, I have wanted to change the world.

Reading biographies and history as a boy convinced me that we write our own stories. We live in a society filled with examples of individuals who created significant change in the world.

One person with strong belief and effective action could change nearly everything.

With enthusiasm I studied law and public policy, then set out to make changes in the world around me.

We create our society, and we can change it when we work together. I would set out each day, eager to put my education into practice. There were many new lessons to learn through experience in the world.

One of the leaders who inspires me, Gandhi, said something often quoted as Be the change you wish to see in the world. I think what he said was more like If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. … We need not wait to see what others do. With time and reflection, I began to appreciate the wisdom of his words.

It is passionately important to me to change the world. I see a great deal of potential for change.

The change I would like to make in the world grows out of small changes. In the same way that the coins in your pocket can add up to real money, small changes become significant. It is no longer my priority to wield justice as a magic wand in the world. My effort now is to become more just myself. It is no longer my work to create perfect system, but to become a better person.

I listen and make suggestions as people seek their deeper, truer selves.

What is the change you wish to see in the world?

How will you be an example of change today?
