People desire forgiveness. Whether we realize it or not, something deep in us hungers to be forgiven.

Whatever it is we feel we need to be forgiven for, we did not mean to do it. We did not set out to break the rules, or fail to meet expectations, or upset anyone. We were not trying to hurt anyone. We are sorry we offended. Please forgive us.

Some of us are not able to express our own desire for forgiveness. We take offense, hold grudges, seek revenge. We refuse to acknowledge we want to be forgiven. We refuse to forgive. We will hold on with every bit of strength we have, to the bitter end.

Spiritual life draws us toward forgiveness.

Each of us comes to forgive ourselves in our own personal way. Each of us learns what we need to learn the only ways we can. When we hold ourselves to high standards it is more of a challenge to forgive ourselves.

Spiritual life makes forgiveness possible.

Spiritual life is not about perfect adherence to codes of conduct or even thinking. Spiritual life is about finding the forgiveness we so desperately want. Spiritual life is about the forgiveness which waits for us to ask for it.

Our ability, our willingness, to forgive comes from deep within us. We do not forgive each other, or ourselves, without it.

Spiritual life shows us how things look from a new perspective.

Spiritual life helps us appreciate ourselves and each other in a fresh light. We recognize we are forgivable, then forgiven. When we know we are forgiven we become able to forgive.

We begin to see, and become able to forgive.

Where does spiritual life draw you to find forgiveness?

Who is spiritual life urging you to forgive today?
