Looking Ahead

If 2011 is any indication, we have only the slightest glimmer of insight into exactly where we will be at the end of 2012.

I am confident about some things, and choose to believe some others. It is not that I am lost, or do not know where I would like to be.

If this year teaches us anything, it is that the possibilites are limitless.

I  have learned more and grown more this year than any other year I can remember. New skills, new insights, new ways of doing things and of understanding them. I could not have predicted a year ago what this year has taught me, and I cannot predict what the coming year will bring. Each day, each moment, is saturated with possibilities. We are poised on the verge of all those possibilities.

We do know that the coming year will be a journey, with its own part of the story. We are going somewhere. Each step will be challenging, and each step will help us move forward. We may be going places we do not yet know exist.

We will meet people along the way who will help us learn new lessons and help us overcome obstacles. We will face dangers, and we will meet challenges. We will have opportunities to gain new insights into our own values and vision. We will come to know our own true selves more deeply, and to appreciate the true selves of others. We will learn new ways to improvise, and to set boundaries. We will make new mistakes, and learn from them. We will help each other.

The steps we take on our journeys will fit together to form the story of our year. The stories of each of us will be woven together into the fabric of our lives together. Our experiences and reflections, our mistakes and insights, will help us prepare to take the next step.

A year from now, we be looking ahead to another new year filled with possibilities.
