4. Rocky (Bill Conti)
James (Son #5) can sing “Eye of the Tiger.” In fact, he’s so familiar with its poetic charms that it recently prompted this exchange between he and his mother:
“Mama, what is passion?”
“It’s when you care about something very, very much.”
“Then how can you trade your passion for glory?“
OK, so maybe he doesn’t know what it means. But he can sing it all the same.
Conti’s orchestral work on the Underdogiest Film Ever Made is almost certainly not its most instantaneously-recognizable musical cue — that would be Survivor’s …contribution, no doubt — but I think it’s actually a lot more essential to the film’s effectiveness. (And here’s Pietro Mascagni’s gorgeous Intermezzo, from Marty’s Raging Bull. Because “boxing,” after all.) http://youtu.be/A3P7fucxdpc
