Kwan refuses NBC – Class shows.

I like this story about Michelle Kwan refusing an offer by NBC to provide ice skating commentary for the remainder of the Olympic games.

Kwan turned down the job offer, saying she didn’t want to be a distraction for the remaining members of the U.S. Olympic figure skating team, NBS Sports spokesman Michael McCarley said Sunday.

That’s class. That’s grace in a difficult time. Amazing. She knows it’s actually not all about her, and will get off the stage to make sure it does not become about her.

I saw her skate live, once – that tremendous, notable spiral of hers makes you gasp when you see it in person – and I thought she was elegant and personable. I only like her all the more, now.
