Talking “Strange Gods” on Catholic Weekend

Talking “Strange Gods” on Catholic Weekend 2017-03-02T20:57:59+00:00

When Maria Johnson invited me to come and chat with the gang at SPQN’s Catholic Weekend, I said “sure” without really knowing what to expect. I didn’t anticipate a party atmosphere at Google hangouts, and I was a little frightened at the idea of talking with four people at once. But when Maria greeted me with a tiara on her head and a tee shirt proclaiming herself “The Queen of Everything” I realized I could have retained my Donald Duck sweatshirt. Tiara aside, I felt overdressed!

In this episode: Maria Johnson, Billy Newton, Jeff Nielsen and Angela Sealana all chat it up with me about Strange Gods: Unmasking the Idols in Everyday Life and other subjects, and frankly a splendid time was had by all. The chat meanders from our musings about Lucy Liu and Santa Esmerelda, on to idolatry, ethical gifts and Pope Francis, right through to Otis the dog — named for Otis Redding, not Otis elevators — and some thoughtful picks of the week. i have decided that I love this show, and I am really glad to have been invited on!

Please check it out; perhaps give it a listen while puttering, today, in the garden.
