Mike Huckabee Is A Homophobic Ass

Mike Huckabee must be stopped.  This man is a religious fanatic and putting him in the White House (if he runs) would be a disaster.  Take a look at this twisted logic from an interview he gave to Fox Business Channel’s “Freedom Watch” with Andrew Napolitano (via The Wonk Room):

HUCKABEE: If we change the definition to a man or a man and a woman and a woman, why can’t we accommodate a man and two women or a woman and three men. […]

There is a role that a father plays that is different than a role that a mother plays. The ideal relationship for a child is give them both. […] There is a Natural Law that supersedes even Constitutional and statutory law. That Natural Law that says it is wrong, to murder, to steal.

NAPOLITANO: If you became the President of the United States would you use your bully pulpit to address this or would you use your powers under the Constitution to address this?

HUCKABEE: Well, I think that the President uses both…I would use both….if you have families that are dysfunctional, broken, and totally falling apart, that’s going to be reflected in every level of government upon which government is built.

What the hell is this hick talking about?  Aside from his plain ignorance, or more likely, his outright lies about the effect of being raised with gay parents, his reference to Natural Law is nothing more than a mask for what he really means, religious law.  He has the nerve to justify his homophobia by linking it to opposition to murder and theft.

Let’s talk about polygamy.  Polygamy is in the bible.  It’s all over the place in the bible.  We have generally evolved beyond it because it’s been made pretty clear that polygamous marriages, mainly engaged in by religious men, are usually harmful to the women.  My libertarian strain objects to even prohibiting that.

But to link it to gay marriage is just blatant hatred.  No one is born with a polygamous nature (at least not more so than anyone else).  Only gays are legally prohibited from legal recognition of  sharing their lives with another person.

I’ve been accused from time to time of being too angry.  Anger, followed by action, is the only appropriate response to this garbage.

I sure hope when he starts his run for president and begins his folksy visits to the talk shows that someone puts him in his place on this.  The only reason to ban gay marriage is because you believe that God told you to.  Period.
