IN video posted on Twitter Ms Trump, above, in a desperate attempt to woo the LGBT voters and those who support them, made an astonishing claim, saying he’s ‘the first President to enter the White House supporting gay marriage.’

My initial reaction was “liar!” – but I then discovered that Obama, before entering the White House, appeared to flip-flop about the issue.

According to TIME:

After Vice President Joe Biden announces his support for same-sex marriage, Obama is forced to move up a planned announcement of his change in position. In an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts, Obama says he has changed his mind. “At a certain point,” he said, “I’ve just concluded that – for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that –  I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”

But Trump, before he was made President, was decidedly against same-sex marriage.

From CNN:

In 2015, Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper: “I’m just for traditional marriage.”

“I just don’t feel good about it. I don’t feel right about it. I’m against it and I take a lot of heat because I come from New York. You know, for New York it’s like, how can you be against gay marriage? But I’m opposed to gay marriage.

Trump has as President made several policy decisions which have affected the rights and lives of the gay community, and not in a positive way. As a presidential candidate, Trump ran on his personal belief supporting marriage only between a man and a woman.

A week after the election, Trump said in a televised interview that he was “fine with” the Supreme Court decision to allow same-sex marriage, but it was not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Ms Trump said in her video that Trump, as a businessman and “the ultimate outsider” earned him:

Many enemies in the political establishment. I was shocked to discover that some of these powerful people have tried to paint my husband as anti-gay or against equality. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Melania Trump says in her video that the Trump administration had made positive moves to support the rights of the gay community, but within six months of his tenure, according to CNN, Trump proposed a ban on transgender individuals entering the military. Though a discrimination case reached the Supreme Court in January 2019, the court didn’t rule on the legality of the ban, meaning it could go into effect and deal blow to LGBTQ activists.

She also also reminds viewers that her husband is the leader of the Republican Party, in addition to being President, adding in her estimation he has always treated gays and lesbians equally.

Yet the official Republican Party platform, says CNN, opposes same-sex marriage and calls for overturning Obergefell v Hodges, the Supreme Court decision that legalised it.

The video was posted to the Twitter account of the Log Cabin Republicans, a deluded bunch of gay Republican turkeys who favour Christmas being held 365 days of the year, as evidenced by the fact that they are endorsing Trump this year, although they did not in 2016.

Melania Trump also noted American citizens “condemn those who bully and intimidate people,” though her husband, according to CNN:

Has spent much of his presidency doing just that, especially on Twitter. And in recent months, the President has mocked and name-called members of the media as well as Democratic candidate Joe Biden for practicing social distancing and wearing masks, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to claim lives.

Commenting on her message, “ex-gay” Doug Mainwaring of far-right LifeSiteNews, wrote:

Mrs. Trump’s expressed support, while firmly stated, focuses not on specific issues popularly associated with the leftist LGBT juggernaut, but on the right of gays with libertarian or conservative views to not have their voices silenced, and to not be ignored by mainstream media.

Two years ago, Melania Trump  claimed in an ABC News report that:

I could say I’m the most bullied person on [sic] the world.

Bottom line: Not a liar. Simply a woman who’s adept at exaggeration and twisting the truth.
