‘Rosary warriors’ target Catholic college over ‘Satanic’ music March 28, 2021

A DEVIL of a row has erupted in New Jersey over a student-run radio station that’s been broadcasting heavy metal music for 35 years.

So great is the anger aimed at Seton College’s WSOU – which boasts “the loudest rock in NJ and NY since 1986” – that a website has been created that invites “faithful Catholics” to sign a petition demanding that Joseph Cardinal Tobin, Archbishop of Newark, shuts down the station.

It has so far garnered 823 signatures. People have also held protests outside the college.

Created by the Lepanto Institute’s Michael Hichborn, above, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, for “Shut Down WSOU“, the petition says:

We as faithful Catholics from New Jersey and around the United States are committed to ending the Satanic, anti-Christian and violently obscene broadcasting coming from Seton Hall University’s radio station, WSOU.

This problem started under the leadership of the former Archbishop of Newark, homosexual predator Theodore McCarrick, when WSOU adopted an extreme music format in 1986. Despite public outcry and two highly publicized bans over the years, Catholic Seton Hall and the Archdiocese of Newark have allowed this to continue and grow more extreme over 34 years.

After multiple internal reviews of standards in 2019 and 2020, which were driven in part by a letter and report to the Pope made available to Cardinal Tobin by the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Seton Hall’s radio station continues to regularly air satanic and violently anti-Christian material.

Since Cardinal Tobin’s reception of the report, WSOU has aired material promoting Satanism, witchcraft, the occult, rape, genocide against Christians, blasphemy against the Eucharist, political violence, heinous violence against women and children, and the black mass. The university has bred a perniciously evil subculture at the station that is overtly hostile to Christ – one the university, its Board of Trustees and the Board’s Chair, Cardinal Tobin have been unwilling to remove.

By continuing to air this material in New York City and northern New Jersey, America’s largest media market, Seton Hall has made itself once again a disgrace to Christ’s Church and a threat to many young souls inside and outside their university environment …

It adds:

One would think Seton Hall University would have standards preventing the airing of Satanism on its radio station, WSOU.  But this is a university where its Seminarians were served up to Theodore McCarrick for sexual exploitation.  Organizations capable of this level of corruption are generally dominated by influences that upend norms of moral behavior.  Still it may be hard for some to believe this ‘Catholic’ institution is regularly airing Satanism, a year after all the responsible parties were formally informed …

Cardinal Tobin has refused to use his authority to stop this, as has Seton Hall President Joseph Nyre.  We are in a spiritual war to end this diabolical evil and shut down WSOU, one that will end when WSOU is gone.  The Cardinal’s position is untenable. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

The New York Post points out that the Lepanto Institute is “an arch-conservative lay Catholic organization which takes its name from a 16th-century naval battle between the Pope’s Holy League and the Ottoman Empire” and quotes one protester, Maria Woltornist, as saying:

We have stood praying the rosary outside the radio station to stop this diabolical evil, and literally have had students yell, ‘Hail Satan!’ at us.

The caption beneath the Shut Down WSOU photo above describes the protesters as “rosary warriors.”

In response to prior criticism, station programming modifications were developed following a review last year by WSOU students, alumni and college clergy, said Laurie Pine, a spokeswoman for the South Orange, NJ college.

Critics respond that WSOU’s format “is still as evil as ever.” They point to recent broadcasts of heavy metal bands such as the Architects, which created “A Portrait for the Deceased” with the lyrics, “Piano wire strangling our necks.”

Students say they have a right to listen to their own music and dispute that mere lyrics can lead to violent or immoral behavior.

A freshman who works at WSOU told The Post:

We are not doing anything wrong. All the charges against us are erroneous and false.

But John Horvat II, Vice President of a lunatic right wing Catholic outfit, The American Society for the Defence of Tradition, Family and Property, insisted WSOU’s programming shouldn’t be a part of a radio broadcast from a Catholic school

He said the group has gathered another 40,000 signatures urging Seton Hall, “to stop promoting Satanism” at WSOU. The group organised a rally on the college campus on Tuesday.

Catholic priest James Martin has referring to the deeply homophobic American TFP as an “online hate group.”
