Just read an interesting story on the legacy of Jan Huss, the great proto-Reformer of the present-day Czech Republic. If you’ve never heard of Huss or haven’t thought much about him, this Baptist Press piece is well worth your time. Here’s a bit: He became a priest not for noble or spiritual reasons but simply to escape poverty.  He died stripped of his priesthood because of his devotion to Jesus Christ and the Scriptures.  Thanks to the writings of John... Read more

Some of you know that at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, we recently engaged the issues raised by Messiah College professor Eric Seibert. In a chapel panel led by president R. Albert Mohler, Jr., Phillip Bethancourt (helpful blog here), Denny Burk, and I worked through Seibert’s argument, seeking to understand his perspective while offering a biblical critique of it. The panel is found above. It seems clear that the issue of violence in Scripture is not going away. In fact,... Read more

I recently had the opportunity to see the preview of a film called LIFE that took my breath away. You can watch the same preview above; I encourage you to do so. This isn’t your standard evangelical movie. For starters, its look and feel are reminiscent of a Terrence Malick film. That alone caught my attention in my first viewing (I’ve since watched it numerous times). There aren’t many films produced by Christians that a) aspire to such cinematic heights... Read more

Scripture is authoritative and normative, not simply for our Sunday gatherings, but for all of life. So our support of marriage–the permanent union between a man and a woman–is grounded in God’s formation of the institution in Genesis 2, Jesus’ own support of marriage in several places (including, notably, Matthew 19:4-6), and the fact that the Apostle Paul... Read more

Welcome back to CBMW’s Announcement Week. Today we cover more new territory: our new staff. Monday–New website Tuesday–New channels Wednesday–New book projects Thursday–New staff Friday–New media It’s really exciting, in working at an organization, to assemble a team. Some of you are aware that I’m the Executive Director of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. I’ve been loving my work since I started formally in January 2013, and we’ve been pulling together various threads since then. As you may know, CBMW is in its fourth decade of operation, having been started in 1987 as the brainchild of Wayne Grudem and John Piper. The Danvers Statement was the kick-off for the movement. Flash ahead 26 years later and... Read more
