Ministering to the Disabled on the Counsel of Trent Podcast

Earlier this week, Trent Horn had John Kraemer and me on his podcast to discuss ministering to the disabled. Trent Horn asked us about our experiences and how we thought the Catholic Church could better minister to the disabled. Here is the podcast (Google Play, iTunes, Stitcher, iHeart embedded):

Here’s a little background on the host and other guest. (I assume if you are a reader here, you know who I am, if not, read my bio for general info or my testimony about being autistic.)

• Trent Horn is a top apologist at Catholic Answers. He converted to the faith and has written nine books and numerous articles on Catholic topics.
• John Kraemer is a Michigan Catholic with cerebral palsy and who does a Lego Church every year which he displays throughout Michigan.

Trent asked the two of us about the different ways our disability affected us. Then, he moved on to how the Church and those inside her can do better to help the disabled. Much of what I said, I’ve said in other formats as well but I think John Kraemer added some comments as he suffers an invisible disability that makes it harder for him than me to adapt to society. The first step is obviously acceptance but I note that we need to go beyond accepting the disabled to helping us become ministers. A call to be a saint does not cease because one is disabled. We too are called to be saints. That often means serving others. I hope you enjoy the podcast and the reflections John and I shared.
