In a perfect world, I would love to see the white evangelical church embrace the work of Tyler Perry, a man whose movies often reflect the deep Christian faith he holds dear. In some regards, only an African-American can make films that so overtly explore faith. White culture is too cynical to tolerate more than just a smidge of Jesus in a movie.
Perry’s upcoming movie “Good Deeds,” opening on February 24, looks amazing. It’s about a successful businessman (Perry) who opens up his eyes and his heart to the needs of a poor cleaning woman (Thandie Newton) who works in his business.
To put oomph behind his movie, Perry is partnering with the Gift Card Giver campaign, which offers a simple and elegant way to help others. You know those gift cards you got for Christmas that you haven’t used and probably won’t? Someone else could use them. Go to this website to learn more.
