Big news, folks! I’m proud to announce that after eight long years of research, I have finally submitted my second book manuscript! The Pentacle Path Vol. 2: Lunar Witchcraft is now with my editor at Llewellyn. I’m enormously proud of the year-long magickal system I unfold through this book.
This lunar magick calls upon the aid of twelve unique goddesses from antiquity. These goddesses aren’t strictly associated with the Moon; rather, their powers and mythological significance assist us as we balance ourselves along the axes of consciousness anchored across the zodiac wheel. I’ve named these six axes of magickal work as the BEACON paths: Becoming, Embodiment, Awareness, Cultivation, Offering, and Nourishment. I’ve previously shared an overview of that system here on the blog.
Which Witch Goddess for What?
The aid of these goddesses wasn’t sought because they perfectly embody their zodiac sign, but because their unique strengths counterbalance the weaknesses presented by that sign. They are the antidote to that sign’s poison, so to speak. As we celebrate each lunation of full and dark moon within that zodiacal pairing, we enter deeper relationship with the feminine side of divinity.
Our own receptive, goddess-centered consciousness is cultivated through devotional practice with these aspects of the Great Goddess. For witches wanting to deepen their relationship with individual goddesses, I recommend first familiarizing yourself with their mythos, ancient temples, and cultic practices. Read what archaeology, folklore, and scholarship can tell us about how they were honored in antiquity.
Then—most importantly—open yourself to a divine dialogue with the living current of that goddess today. Ask: What does she offer me in this moment? How does she wish to be honored here and now? My goal for Modern Witchcraft is to evolve together with the gods to meet the needs of the present world. We honor the old stories without becoming trapped by them.
Pro-tip: Refuse to be enslaved by anything, least of all ideas.
Devotional Ideas in Daily Practice
Here’s a fresh idea for your daily practice: Flow through the next lunation watching how the Moon moves into a new sign roughly every 2.5 days. Review the qualities of that sign and observe how that lunar mood colors the day. Invite the goddess correlated with that sign to guide your experiences, and incorporate the receptive acts I’ve suggested below.
These small devotional seeds planted now will return later in fuller bloom at your full and dark moon Esbats, where each goddess takes her place as guide and ally within the ritual practices of those tides.
Twelve Goddesses for Twelve Zodiac Signs
To accompany the Esbat rites in Lunar Witchcraft, I created artwork for each goddess as my first receptive act—opening myself to their mysteries and ancient imagery, then offering my modern artistry through twelve candle-wrap designs intended for 7-day sanctuary candles. Lighting these candles strengthens their evocation into the ritual circle and invites their presence into the middle world.
As a teaser, I’ve included the devotional text and correspondences offered in the book. If you’re inclined, create your own art as a devotional offering.
