“Crazy” must run in the Paul family or something. Or is that “keraaayyyzy?” Either way, it’s probably a good thing. You know, back on Saturday, the Gospel Reading was one of the shortest you’ll ever hear being read at mass. It was from Mark’s Gospel. Did you see it? (more…) Read more

Would that really surprise you if I said that one of the reasons why I am Catholic is because of Crony Capitalism? Well it shouldn’t, if you think about it. Perhaps you haven’t read Caritas In Veritate, or looked into the the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church. Maybe you skipped over all of those posts I wrote when I was being a Rand Buster™. In the photograph above, you see the original Señor Santo Niño statue that Ferdinand Magellan gave to the Rajah Humabon and his wife Humamay when he arrived in Cebu in the Philippines. The Rajah and his wife, see, became Catholics and allies of Spain. Sure, there was intrigue and trickery, alliances and bloodshed along the way, and in the Philippines, Magellan would lose his life. Editors’ Note: This is seriously old news. Vote for either Thing 1 or Thing 2. —The Cat in the Hat. He also gives Ron Paul the nod over Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich. Who is Tom Woods, and why should you care? Sure, I’m always the last one to know, but he has a resume that is half a mile deep and two miles wide. Here’s a taste, Thomas E. Woods, Jr., is a senior fellow of the Ludwig von... Read more

I’m talkin’ bout the Boy Wonder, aka the Bad Catholic, Marc Barnes. Jonathan Fitzgerald of Patrol: A Review of Religion and the Modern World, mentioned Marc in an Op-Ed piece that the WSJ is running today. Go check it out. It’s all about the nonsensical video that went viral. You know the one. Bravo Zulu kid! And the same to John Fitzgerald too. Read more

Crisis Magazine has an essay written by Jason Jones that you will want to read, wherein he has a movie recommendation that you will probably want to follow up on too. Who’s Jason Jones? He was the Executive Producer of the film Bella which came out in 2006. Guess where the photograph above was taken? Your cursor will tell you. (more…) Read more

Sometimes, something goes so viral that all you can do is shake your head and wonder, “what are people thinking?” Then again, I realize that many of us are conditioned to respond to things that are nearly correct, even if they are, in truth, way off base. Consider the mad rounds of clapping in recent political debates when swaggering candidates talk of killing our nation’s enemies, alleged or otherwise, foreign or domestic. Or the real estate, or Dot Com bubbles.... Read more

G.K. Chesterton wrote poems too, and songs, of course. I found this neat little example of satirical verse that could become a quite compelling earworm, when set to a jaunty tune. This is a selection that can be found in Chesterton’s The Ballad of St. Barbara, And Other Verses. This one sounds like it could have come from the comedic masters of Monty Python. (more…) Read more

You know, the one they didn’t play, and the one they hoped you had forgotten, or hopefully, had never heard. The one that 4 out of 5 of these candidates, and the Incumbent, don’t want me to play. The one for the Road to Tehran. Sing it along with me, won’t you? I’ll even include the lyrics below the video. (more…) Read more

How’s that for an answer to “Why I Am Catholic,” dear reader? Here, I’ll say it again: because of the Twilight Zone episode my country has become. Because when lifesaving care can be denied to your child because of mental handicaps, or physical disabilities, you know, for the good of the herd (or is it for the good of Mammon?), that’s when you realize how our disrespect for human dignity has turned our world over to monsters.
