My local news outlet has the skinny, hot off the wire. Last week, a national organization called the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter to the university, asking leaders to stop the prayers.   The foundation argued that public prayer before a game doesn’t belong at a public institution, and it violates the constitution. And all we got was this stinkin’ cartoon. Actually, it’s a fine cartoon, don’t you think? They should have put it on lots of t-shirts, and coffee mugs, or something. Oh wait, there is video! (more…) Read more

No, it’s not Jennifer Lopez dressed in a leopard skin-tight leotard top. Or is it? Because if the editors of Glamour could put two and two together, they might find that the real solution on “How to Shake Off Anxiety and Live Happy,” might have a lot to do with not being overly concerned with the “12 Naughty Sex Questions You’ve Been Dying to Ask,” or the “10 Things More Important Than Those Last Five Pounds.” (more…) Read more

You know, except for when we don’t.  President Barack Obama said the United States supports religious freedom, despite his administration’s ongoing legal dispute with the Catholic Church and other religious groups. “I have made it clear that the United States has a profound respect for people of all faiths,” Obama in his weekly address on Saturday. “We stand for religious freedom.” (more…) Read more

As the presidential election starts looming large on the horizon, it’s time to dust off the voters’ guide I wrote about last November. As such, I’m relaunching this post on the handy little guide from one of the earliest of all Christian writings. I’m not really big on following politics nowadays. You could call me a bad Catholic for that, but I would argue that I have a million other more important things to do with my time than keep... Read more

I’ve been thinking about the attacks to our embassies all across the Islamic world. Like the rogue character Gaston in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, me thinking is a frightening prospect, I know. But I cannot help but do it, as I served in Cairo, Egypt and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia as a Marine Security Guard (MSG) at our embassies located in those two capital cities of predominantly Muslim countries. I spent 15 months or so in both of these countries... Read more

It may seem a strange way for an argument to develop, but really it is the American Way to allow for nonconformists to thrive.  This is one of our country’s hallmark traits, and a fruit of the wisdom of the founders of our republic. For example, how many Chick-Fil-A’s were burned to the ground during the latest dustup in the American Culture wars? How many protesters were killed? I’m thinking none. And remember the Occupy Wall Street brouhaha? How many... Read more

You may not have noticed it, but it is horrific… No access to free beer. What the hell are we thinking?! Also, is it me, or is that Vladimir Putin? I can’t believe he didn’t manage to get his shirt off for this picture. Stay thirsty, my friends.   Read more

If this post doesn’t cut you to the quick, nothing will. Put on the shoes of the other side, and recall clearly where consequentialism leads, and how if we let it, it will damn us all to Hell. (more…) Read more
