What did three middle school boys do when they saw a girl being picked on? The answer will probably surprise you!

Chase Vazquez, Miles Rodriguez, and Scooter Terrien were playing in a basketball game when they heard kids in the stands taunting Desiree Andrews, a cheerleader on the squad who has Down Syndrome. They stopped the game and used one of their timeouts to defend her.

When asked why they responded that way, here’s what they said:

Chase: “The kids in the audience were picking on Dee, so we all stepped forward.”

Miles: “When I heard they were talking about her, it made me angry.”

Scooter: “It’s not fair when other people get treated wrong because we’re all the same. We’re all created the same; God made us the same way.”

Now they all have a new friend, and Desiree has three new buddies and protectors as they face high school. “D” says her family thinks the boys are “sweet, awesome, kind, and amazing.”

I hope Tripp grows up to be as kind to others as those three boys!
