If you were the airport agent, what would you do if a man refused to take off his turban? February 10, 2016

The man in the photo is named Waris Ahluwalia, and he’s a Sikh. At the airport, he was asked by security to take off his turban.  He refused, and he was stuck in Mexico City until the airline apologized.

I have to be honest, I don’t know much about being a Sikh.  (And I’m sure that the airport security doesn’t know much about it either.)  But, I don’t understand why people doing their jobs (like TSA, police, teachers, etc.) get soooooo ridiculed for following protocol.

Are these workers supposed to learn how to do their jobs AND to learn about all of the world’s religions just to make sure no one is offended?

If I wore a ball cap to the airport, I’d be asked to take it off.  If I wore a scarf, same thing.  I understand that wearing his turban is a religious belief.  But I like this religious belief: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

People think they’re being victimized over basic safety measures… even though it has nothing to do with stereotyping or racism.  It’s just people trying to do their job.

Can you imagine being a white cop pulling over a black man these days?  Or can you imagine the pit in the stomach or the TSA agent when he asked that guy to take off his turban?  He probably knew it might cost him his job. (The airline apologized to the traveler.)

Let’s give airport agents, cops, or anyone else who interacts with the public in dangerous ways a break.

Lets let them do their jobs of protecting us.
