New Scientific Studies Show Just How Inhumane Late-Term Abortions Are

We have all heard abortion advocates throw around the term “viability.”  It’s the point at which the laws of our country say a baby could survive on its own outside the womb, and thus can no longer be aborted in most places.  In their view, it’s when a fetus becomes a baby.

But science is finally catching up with what those of us in the pro-life movement have been saying all along.  Viability is a very vague standard for judging when life begins, because as technology improves, the standard will always be changing.

And a new study was just released that proves this point exactly.

The study, published in the The New England Journal of Medicine, showed that with medical treatment, about 23 percent of infants born at 22 weeks survived. One in three of those survivors face serious impairments, such as blindness or deafness.

One in three babies born at 23 weeks were also able to survive, with half of those children surviving without serious problems.

The medical community generally cites 24 weeks as the viable age in which a fetus is able to survive outside the womb.

Now, in the wake of this research, that consensus is being questioned, invigorating the debate over whether women should be allowed, under the law, to have a late-term abortion.

Viability is a CRAZY standard.  It is time to change our laws to catch up with science!  Even if you are pro-choice and believe “viability” should be our standard for when we can abort a life, the laws must change. Our definition of viability is so out of date with what science and technology are now able to accomplish.

But that just shows the problem with that argument to begin with.  If we chose viability as our marker for when a fetus becomes a child, we are constantly going to be changing the age limit as science continues to improve.  That means that all those abortions between 20-24 weeks we did last year were in fact actually murder under the law this year.

That is crazy!  Clearly, it was always murder, scientists just weren’t smart enough to tell us it was yet! And the more science develops to help premature babies survive, the more that the insanity of what is happening in the abortion industry is going to come to light.

Late-term abortion laws in the United States are not only out of sync with science, they are out of sync with norms around the world. Even most of our liberal allies in Europe ban late-term abortions, because it is so obvious how inhumane the practice really is.  The Daily Signal writes:

The U.S. is one of only seven developed countries in which late-term abortions after 20 weeks (five months) are allowed, according to a report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute.

Late-term abortions performed after 20 weeks, when not done by induction of labor (which leads to fetal death due to prematurity), are most commonly performed by dilation and evacuation procedures, which often involve removing the fetus with forceps or other instruments.

In 2013, a congressional report found that some 11,000 abortions take place each year at 20 weeks or more after fertilization.

Let’s demand that our state legislatures pass laws that at the very least catch up with what science is telling us!  We have to pass more late-term abortion bans around the country!  You can check out where your state laws stands on the issue on this map.
