A “bucket list” for the Year of Faith

A reader in Cincinnati brought this to my attention.  It comes from St. Cecilia’s Church in Oakley, Ohio.   The pastor has posted a “bucket list” for the Year of Faith, with 33 ideas to enrich and enliven your spiritual life in the months head.  A sample:

  • Join the parish, if you are not already a member.
  • Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church in a year via daily emails
  • (flocknote.com/catechism), and/or purchase a copy of the Catechism for your home.
  • Read the weekly Catechesis column in the bulletin.
  • Pray daily A Family Prayer for the Year of Faith or the New Evangelization Prayer (usccb.org).
  • Read and reflect on the Sunday readings before attending Mass each week.
  • Make a habit to pray before meals, including meals eaten in public, by praying: Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
  • Check the list of dates in the bulletin for each month’s events.
  • Volunteer at a parish service event, such as the Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner or the weekly community dinner.
  • Attend at least one talk during the 2012 parish Advent Mission.
  • Celebrate the Season of Advent by having an Advent wreath in your home.
  • Pray the Stations of the Cross on at least one Friday during Lent.
  • Attend at least one talk during the 2013 parish Lenten Speaker Series.
  • Pray the Rosary every Saturday in May, the month of Our Lady, and in October, the month of the Rosary.
  • Participate in at least one special parish event, such as May Crowning, Forty Hours’
  • Devotion, or “The Darkest Hour” Tenebrae Service on Good Friday.
  • Perform an examination of conscience  and attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
  • Attend a class or lecture to learn more about your Catholic faith, such as one of those offered through the Athenaeum of Ohio in Mt. Washington
  • Invite a friend to attend Mass with you.

Those are all for starters. I think it’s a terrific idea.  Read the rest.
