Let’s Chat!

Let’s Chat! January 5, 2008

I will be watching the debates tonight.  Yes both sides.  And it occurs to me that while we write about many issues here, we haven't chatted as "Faithful Democrats" about the candidates.  Don't you think it's time we did?

Yes the horse race has just begun even though the pundits seem desperate to control who wins….as usual.  Nothing new here.  What is new that I found a great new way to watch the returns.  It is called the refresh button on my notebook computer.  Yes siree, no more listening to the pundits tell me what to think, who to vote for, and giving me limited information.

So let's chat.  I'm going out on a limb and just put some thoughts out about the candidates.  I would love to hear your thoughts as well about the candidates.

What I don't want is mean nasty comments.  Let us set the bar higher here and be respectful and just chat like civilized people about this HORSE RACE that has just started out of the gate.

The current Delegate count out of Iowa is as follows:

1st in Iowa — Obama – 16 delegates

2nd in Iowa — Edwards — 14 delegats

3rd in Iowa —  Hillary — 15 delegates

I still don't understand how Hillary comes in 3rd and gets more delegates.

Ok so somebody remind me how many delegates are in New Hampshire?  Is it winner take all in New Hampshire?

For once I would like this horse race to NOT BE DECIDED by the time it gets to my state in March.  I understand that is NOT what the PUNDITS want but I also know that there are a substantial number of actual Democratic voters in my state that would like our vote to actually count towards something for a change.   However, if by the time it's our chance to cast  a ballot, if the Democratic nomination has been decided, I'm going to vote for Ron Paul on the other side.  See in my state we are not registered.  You can vote one time ONLY — either on the Dem side or the GOP side.  Again I know a lot of ACTUAL voters who feel similarly.

But back to the Dems.   Candidly here is how I see things shaping up.  Again these are just thoughts BEFORE tonight's debate.  Who knows?  Someone might really impress me later tonight.

Hillary — I am so tired of the Clintons.  I like both of them but I can't find one RED state the I believe Hillary can win.  Some think Bill is an asset, some think he is a liability.  It's real simple.  If you live in a RED state, MOST PEOPLE think he's a liability.  And vice versa for BLUE STATES.  I'm curious about these borderline states that could go either way.

OBama — I haven't made up my mind about Obama.  I want a candidate that can win in November 2008.  I don't think Obama can win in either Texas or Florida.  The jury is still out about Ohio.  Anyone from Ohio with thoughts about this?

John Edwards — I was impressed by John Edwards because he came to a RED state and met with regular EVERY DAY people like you and me.  Now in my state, the only time Democratic candidates come here is with their hands out to RICH FATCAT donors.  Regular people here seldom see primary candidates because as I said before by the time it gets here, it's aleady been decided.   The hall was large and packed FULL to overflowing.  I liked his message.  As a little guy, I want someone who knows how to step up and fight for people like me.   I believe John Edwards could win in my state.   The GOP in my state have stated that John Edwards is the candidate they are most afraid of.   I think they know he could win here as well.

Bill Richardson — I really like this guy but it seems to me that he's really running for the VP nomination.  After all, he's experienced, a Governor of a RED state AND Hispanic.  Being a Governor, he may be the most ELECTABLE candidate…..yes I think he could win in my RED state but it would be very close and dependent on the GOP candidate.

Dennis Kucinich:  You've got to admire someone who fights the odds.  Dennis,  perhaps you should consider being an independent candidate.  Or even run as the GREEN candidate, then you would have an established party to help you raise money and awareness.  I mean if McCain can talk about bringing Lieberman into his campaign, then you could talk about bringing Ron Paul into your campaign.

As for the GOP, whether they win or not will depend on who their candidate is at least here in my state.  They are NOT GUARANTEED to win here even though the state went red in 2000/2004.   Personally, I would not be surprised to see no one go to the GOP convention

Since I mentioned Ron Paul several times here, I must say that I personally know the family.  They are good Christian people.   In fact I voted for Ron Paul when he was the Libertarian candidate for President because I believe it is time we have a President COMMITTED TO RETURNING OUR COUNTRY TO THE CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS.  I am tired of the Supreme Court making up laws.  Did you know that the phrase "seperation of church and state" is NOWEHRE in the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, OR the Constitution?  It is a phrase that Thomas Jeffererson used in debating the issue.  You see some people at that time wanted a National Religion established.  Jefferson noted that as part of the English Monarchy they were also ruled by the Church and that in America this should not be the case but instead there should be separation of church and state.   I wasn't aware that the Supreme court could establish laws based on statements made during debates.  I thought the Supreme court was to rule on the validaty of laws according to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights ONLY.   OK, so maybe I am naive.  But I am also tired of TAKING IT IN THE REAR from these politicians.  Hence my support for Ron Paul.  Of all the GOP candidates out there, He seems to be most likely of the GOP to DO THE RIGHT THING FOR AMERICA AND AMERICANS.

OK.  That's it for pre-debate thoughts.  I would love to hear yours because after all at least for now we live in a country that allows you to express your thoughts.   Just keep it civil folks.  And let's not get personal either.  After all, we are FAITHFUL DEMOCRATS.
